SpamBots/New User's can still post anywhere

Postby Max Powerz » Sat May 28, 2016 9:11 am

@Admin,
Admiral Z discovered that SpamBots / Newly registered users have full range on the forum still.
I have also bumped all the spam threads here temporarily, i'll go through and delete them since the only post's in them are a bit of idle chit chat.
Hopefully It'll help neaten the forum up again.

MP

Thanks for that.

I've had another crack at getting the permissions right.
The phpBB interface for permissions is, in my opinion, very convoluted.
Have cracked down on bot access however and assigned Admiral Z as a moderator as well.

We'll see how this goes.

So are we going to be put in the Global Moderators group as well...? I don't really care either way but I'm just curious.

Let me see about it.

Also, I see we have a new user by the name of martamees, who seems to be another polish based spammer.
Interestingly he/she/it hasn't posted.

Huh, that's odd... Has he/she been muted yet? If not, are we going to wait for a spam post to be made?

Another polish spam account - 'jursikmas'. No posts.

I might try resetting bot access to default as an experiment.

I can view the entire forum when not logged in,
Somewhere in the permissions you have set the TU2 full build restricted area back to everyone again.
Or something is in the wrong group somewhere.

I have some basic experience with phpBB forum software from when i first started learning about setting up my own online server a few years ago (about 5 years or more maybe 7)
If you want i can have a go at setting up the forum back end if you like.
I promise i wont break anything or change any layout stuff, i'll just spend a day or so working on the permissions and making up some dedicated groups for different users.
I'll also write up a nice instruction post for new users explaining how to apply to be a part of a certain group be it general forum user or beta tester with special access to restricted areas of the forum so they understand how the forum works.

@Admin
I'd also like to chat with you privately about some stuff, do you have a preferred e-mail i can contact you on, or skype or a phone number i can chat with you on to make things easier.
I live in Australia so i don't mind making a skype or phone call to NZ, the time difference is something i can easily work around, i can call you after work.
